LIBERTY — April is Autism Awareness Month. Jennifer Gouldsmith, a mother of autistic children, said she wants people to support local or smaller projects that help kids such as Autism Works in Liberty. Executive Director Dessarey Klarlund said clients come from Parkville, Smithville, Gladstone, Holt — most of the Northland — and even south of the river with families driving to Liberty from Lee’s Summit.
“We draw from the entire metropolitan community,” Klarlund said. “The resources for autism families are scarce.”
